ELCA is a longitudinal survey that follows approximately 10000 colombian households in rural and urban areas every three years. Its aim is to follow the same households during 12 years, up today ELCA has followed them for 6 years.
The main objective of the survey is to understand better the social and economic changes that the households and their members experienced. For this reason, ELCA provides information regarding households’ behavior and its effects on their well-being.
The survey started on the Center for Studies on Economic Development (CEDE) of the School of Economics of the Universidad de los Andes during the first semester of 2007.

Using ELCA databases

How do I cite the use of ELCA databases?

Encuesta Longitudinal Colombiana de la Universidad de los Andes – ELCA, public databases (restricted if you used them). Produced and distributed by the Center for Studies on Economic Development (CEDE), School of Economics, Universidad de los Andes, Bogota, Colombia.

Who can use and what is public data?

Public data can be acquired by anyone through the Data Center website, or by writing an email to datoscede@uniandes.edu.co.

Who can use and which ones are the restricted databases?

The Land and Agricultural Production modules are not freely available and therefore are not on the website. To access these databases, it is necessary to be a professor or student at the Department of Economics of the Universidad de los Andes. Students who wish to access this restricted information must have the approval of a professor at the Department of Economics. Likewise, they must sign a confidentiality agreement to access the data, and must commit to using it only for the development of the research for which they request the data and not for other research.

Information is a public good that must be used responsibly, which is why the Faculty of Economics has made an effort to make available to researchers and the general public the survey data that are subject to reservations –lands, municipalities and georeferencing-. We have the Processing Room of the Department of Economics; where you can consult the georeferenced data, land data (more information).
